I think this William Nicholls & family is more likely to be the son of Joseph & Elizabeth (Spencer) Nicholls as they are living in the same area of London, in fact all their children are living in the Islington/Stepney area of London. Which would indicate the whole family moved from Coventry to London after 1861 - Obviously there is a need to find them in the 1871 Census before their sons had married and moved away from home.

Many smaller settlements follow the spring line at the base of Wenlock Edge. This is where the limestone meets the boulder clay of the valley. The result is a line of farms and settlements at the base of the escarpment. Settlements at Luscott, Easthopewood, Lower and Upper Hill farms and Blakeway. Today the village of Hughley is served by springs and a reservoir built at Upper Hill farm in the 1970's .

b. Abt 1740 in Wood, Dobcross, Saddleworth
Radcliffe Marriage Register records John Scholefield (Clothier) married Alice Platt of 'Wood', which could be either "Wood" at Dobcross (Later to be termed Wood Lane) or " Wood" at Castleshaw or even " Wood" at Stayley. But it seems more likely that it could be the former as both John Schofield's parents could well be James & Mary Scholefield of Hollingreave, Dobcross.

The IGI Records have this Alice Platt of "Wood", Devon, England, but that is conjecture.
