Trevor, a Robert Brierley died in 1864. Living next door to the Jose/Jan/Jas. BRIERLEY 1860 family I mentioned earlier is a 70 y/o Robt. Brierley, born Eng. (This is HQ's index. On Ancestry he's indexed as Robt. BEICSLEY.) Could be James father or uncle? The cemetery data came from the Walworth co. website on Rootsweb. DickOccupation -

Only one JAMES BRIERLEY at Walworth Wisconsin in 1880, but with wife MARY!, May well be that HANNAH LAWTON his first wife died and James Brierley re-married. Or this may not be the same family?? - Needs further research.

A 'Lydia Chadwick' aged 20 (Cotton Weaver) at Calf Hey / 06 living with Brierley family. - Also a Joseph Broadbent ageds 23 (Carter) at Old Tame.spouse: Lawton, James (~1814 - 1885)
1851 - Aged 30 (Farm Labourers Wife & Cotton Weaver) at Bowkhouses, Denshaw.
1861 - Aged 40 (Weaver by Power) at BowkhousesDear Trevor Lawton
The birth records for all those children have James and Lydia as parents Jame's record shows a similar familiar name to Lydia
The information recorded by the Registrars at the time does vary slightly for Lydia's previous name 3 of the 6 show late "late BROADBENT formerly CHADWICK" which indicates that Lydia was married before.
James's birth is not a dual registration, it has been registered just the once but to help the search through the index all surnames are recorded in case someone has only one name to search for. e.g. BROADBENT or CHADWICK
The information taken at the time of registrations whether marriages, deaths or births is a legal declaration made by the couple or informants. It is possible that they misunderstood the questions at the time or the Registrar misunderstood the answer?
Have you checked that Lydia has not been married before even though she was recorded as a spinster on the marriage that you have? (Note: Lydia was aged 32 when she married James Lawton at Rochdale, so she could have been a widow, even though she is recorded as a 'Spinster' at time of marriage.)

Much confusion reigns over this couple, as apparently from information supplied by Oldham Registrars, James and Lydia had six children with three registerd in the mothers maiden name of BROADBENT, and three in the maiden name of CHADWICK, Oldham Registrars are of the
opinion that Lydia Chadwick was prviously married to a Joseph Broadbent, and the only marriage between CHADWICK & BROADBENT is at Rochdale in 1842 (Which would be about the correct timeframe).

BUCKLEY Amy & WRIGLEY Gilbert - Married @ Mossley, St George's - 1919-CE16/3/279
Daughter of Joseph Buckleyspouse: Lawton, Jonathon (~1701 - 1771)
Licensee of Bulls Head Inn, Woods Lane, Dobcross. from 1771-1778.BULLS HEAD INN, Woods Lane, Dobcross, Saddleworth.
Jonathon Lawton was joint benefactor of father Josiah Lawton Last Will and Testament of 24th May 1727 along with elder brother John Lawton. When John Lawton died in 1728, brothers Josiah & Joseph were named executors of his Will and brother Jonathan is only referred to once.
In 1722, Jonathon Lawton, a clothier, (son of Josiah Lawton) married Ann Buckley and by 1760 he had obtained a licence for an Inn. Jonathon died in 1771 and his will mentions 'two very good new houses' with a brewhouse, which were presumably built to replace his original Inn around 1769.
Ann (Buckley) Lawton is listed as licensee of the Bulls head in the 1773 alehouse records, and by 1785, Joseph Buckley (perhaps a relative) had taken over. After Mr. Buckley died in 1797 the house was occupied by a surgeon named John Kenworthy. The impressive double-fronted house built by Jonathon Lawton can still be seen on Woods Lane, Dobcross.
The Memorial Inscription on the Gravestone of Grave No. ??? in the Old Graveyard adjoining St. Chad's Saddleworth Church reads:
Here was interred the body of Elizabeth Lawton, Daughter of Josiah Lawton late of The Bulls Head Inn at Dobcross, who departed this life March 27th 1770 in the ??st. year of her age.
Also of Alice his wife who departed this life January 9th 1799 in the 61st year of her age.
Also Mary their daughter who departed this life June 18th 1799 in the 35th year of her age.
Also Betty his wife who died October 7th 1822 in the 66th year of her age.
Also the aforesaid Josiah Lawton who departed this life March 8th. 1827 in the 88th year of his age.Occupation -
